The first ever consular podcast, hosted by Suzanne Stein, Director CCD, chatting with two members of the Bangkok Consular team - Giselle Bucello (First Secretary/Consul) and Prince (Seithapol Kraichomsom) (Consular Assistant) talks about going on your first prison visit, including for experienced staff wishing to refresh their understanding of the prison visit process. The podcast includes an excerpt of a discussion held with Peter Grete, an Australian journalist held for over 400 days in an Egyptian prison between 2014 an 2015. The excepts provide a real insight into the thoughts from a consular client perspective and the bureaucracy challenges. The ‘World of Consular’ podcast series unpacks some of the many issues consular officers deal with when providing consular services to Australians in challenging situations overseas. The four podcasts discuss subject matter issues important to anyone working in the consular space, and provides helpful advice to build your ‘consular tradecraft’ for those just dipping their toes in, even if only briefly. The host and guests are all very experienced consular officers with significant years of service in Canberra and at post.
