The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade began NAIDOC Week 2024, 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud' with a flag raising ceremony at RG Casey on the morning of Monday, 8 July 2024.
Indigenous Employees Network member Casey Beath opened proceedings before Ngunnawal Elder Uncle Warren Daley welcomed DFAT Staff and the Diplomatic Corps to Ngunnawal country. First Nations Champion George Mina then addressed staff as host, outlining the importance of NAIDOC week and Reconciliation as a whole.
Flag bearers Casey Beath, Sarah Doyle, and Sophia Bissell raised the Indigenous, Torres Strait, and Australian flags at the entrance to RG Casey.
Uncle Warren Daley then began the Smoking Ceremony to assist in cleansing the area and the people of bad spirits, and to promote the protection and well-being of visitors [Source: Deadly Story].
