    The Honourable Pat Conroy, Minister for International Development meets with female students undertaking construction training at Don Bosco in Honiara, Solomon Islands on July 26, 2023. The Honourable Pat Conroy Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Minister for Defence Industry visited the Solomon Islands between July 24 to 26, 2023. Minister Conroy visited the Solomon Islands to continue deepening the relationship between the two countries. The visit coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), when the Pacific family came together to successfully restore peace and security in Solomon Islands. Australia is Solomon Islands' largest bilateral development partner, and the two countries are working together across all areas of society and the economy, delivering jobs and building prosperity for Solomon Islands and its people. Minister Conroy met with my ministerial counterparts in the Solomon Islands Government to exchange views on our shared challenges and opportunities. Minister Conroy also met with Australia Awards alumni, women construction trainees at an Australian supported rural training centre and students at the Solomon Islands National University, where I will deliver a keynote address. The Hon Penny Wong visited Vietnam for the second time as Foreign Minister to further deepen Australia’s cooperation with a key ASEAN partner. Earlier in 2023, Australia and Vietnam marked 50 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring the deep friendship and strategic trust between our countries. Australia and Vietnam share a Strategic Partnership, a commitment to ASEAN centrality and an interest in maintaining a region which is peaceful, stable and prosperous, where sovereignty is respected. During the visit, the Hon Penny Wong met with with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and other senior leaders to discuss a range of shared interests, including our economic and security ties. Foreign Minister Son and the Hon Penny Wong held the fifth annual Australia-Vietnam Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where they discussed regional priorities and how the two countries can expand cooperation, including on climate change, trade and investment, education, and digital delivery of government services.
